Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Officers state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Police then located numerous other marked cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say early analysis show the fluid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; authorities are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the event," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to resolve the case" and have requested to the public for tips.
A high-ranking representative commented the vandalism rendered him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the death of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
